A short ancestry

The exact origin of the cane da pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese (CPMA) is hard to recover. Some say that his distant ancestors can be found among the Magyars and the Toscans. Others perceive of Tibet as the region of origin. In this case scenario the Kumans would have been the first to take the CPMA to Moldavia. The first literary reference to a dog that resembles the CPMA can be found no later than the first century in "De Re Rustica".

Tasks of the Italian shepherd

The cane da pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese (CPMA) is a rather rare watching dog for herds. It used to stay with the cattle when the shepherd would return home to sleep. During the summer, when the grass on the planes was gone, herds and sheepdogs would be taken into the hills, seeking out greener pastures. The CPMA can be found in the Maremma plains, in the Abruzzi region in Italy, but also in the Apenines and on the Adriatic coast.
